Jack Taylor Scores 138 Points; Luke Yeager Gets 4 Assists

All of America — at least, that portion of the country that knows the difference between a pick-and-roll and rock-‘n’-roll — is talking about Jack Taylor’s record-setting performance last night.

For those of you who don’t eat breakfast, lunch and dinner to an ESPN soundtrack, the Grinnell College sophomore scored 138 points last night. That shattered the previous NCAA record of 113, and helped — considerably — the Pioneers to a 179-104 victory over Faith Baptist Bible College.

Yes, mighty Faith Baptist Bible. Not quite an NCAA Final Four team.

In fact, not even an NCAA team.

They play in the National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association.

(And not even Division I of that organization, which I had not heard of until 12 seconds ago.)

So why is an NCAA D-III game played in Iowa in November — against an NCCAA D-II school — “06880”-worthy?

Luke Yeager

Because Luke Yeager got 4 assists.

The former Staples star — now a Grinnell sophomore — earned a footnote in history.

Without him, Jack Taylor might have scored only 130 points.

Although, to be honest, someone else probably would have gotten Jack the ball.
