The First Great News Of 2012

The new year is still a few hours away, but 2012 will definitely start off on a great note.

The latest news from Art’s Delicatessen — the much-loved Italian deli on Post Road West near Riverside Avenue — is that its long-awaited reopening is just a few days away.

Richard Falcone — Art’s son – is taking up exactly where his father left off. He and his sons — Richard Jr. and Chris — used photos of the original layout to recreate the new one.

The menus are already  printed. The moan-inducing Art’s Combo — ham, salami, cappicola, mortadella, pepperoni, provolone, prosciutto, lettuce, tomato, oil and vinegar — is right there. Its’ only $6.50 ($5.50 on a roll, but trust me: You want the grinder).

Not to mention the ziti, ravioli, lasagna, manicotti, stuffed shells, meatballs, chicken and eggplant parm, sausage and peppers, sausage and broccoli rabe, and chicken marsala and piccata.

Art’s will of course sell the same great sandwiches as before, along with party subs (up to 6 feet), cold cuts, and sandwich and salad platters.

Opening day depends on the issuance of a few final permits. So how about town officials making this their New Year’s resolution:  Sign those permits molto rapidamente!
