06880 Throws A “Blog Party”

The weather was perfect. The food was great. The crowd of over 100 was diverse: old and young, artists and bankers, 4th-generation Westporters and a woman who moved here 2 months ago.

Strangers made new friends. Folks on both sides of the political aisle laughed. Everyone marveled at the sunset.

It was just another “06880” day at the beach.

Rick Eason is a rising freshman at Staples. His drone flew over the "06880" party, and captured the happy crowd.

Rick Eason — a rising freshman at Staples — brought his drone to the party. The crowd got bigger later (when the light faded), but here’s a unique view of South Beach and the rest of Compo. Thanks, Rick!

(Special thanks to Mary Hoffman and Jennifer Hershey for helping organize the party; Audrey Hertzel for the cupcakes, and Kibberia restaurant for the food!)

Party On!

The good news: Tonight’s the night for the 2nd annual “06880” party.

The better news: It won’t be 52,000,000,000,000 degrees, like it was last year.

Everyone’s invited. We’ll meet at 6 p.m. at Compo’s South Beach (the one with the grills and picnic tables), at the far end away from the cannons (near the kayak launch).

Bring your own picnic and drinks. We’ll supply the great weather, the name tags — and the chance to meet, mingle and make real-life “06880” connections.

Tomorrow, it’s back to the pixels.

“06880” Party: Need A Ride? Share A Ride?

Several readers would love to come to Thursday night’s “06880” party. But they don’t have beach stickers. (And, as much as they like a good time, they’ve decided it’s not worth the daily parking fee. Can’t say I blame ’em.)

Uber would be a good alternative — except their cars probably don’t have stickers either.

Well, every problem has a solution.* Here’s ours:

  • If you need a ride, email me: dwoog@optonline.net. Tell me where you’re coming from (geographically, not metaphysically).
  • If you can offer a ride, email me: dwoog@optonline.net. Tell me your approximate pick-up range.

I’ll do my best to connect riders and drivers — privately, of course. No guarantees, but it’s just one more way in which “06880” is “where Westport meets the world.”

*Except in the US Congress.

Remember: Annual “06880” Party Is Next Thursday!

The 2nd annual “06880″ party is less than a week away.

And if you’re reading this, you’re invited.

Thursday, July 17 (6 p.m.) is the day and time. The far end of Compo’s South Beach — away from the cannons, near the boat and kayak launch, the best place to watch the sunset — is the place. (Still confused? See the aerial view below.)

Every member of the “06880″ (as in, this website) community is invited. We welcome frequent commenters and lurkers. Folks who have lived here all their lives, and those who moved here yesterday. Even those who want beach parking to remain as is, and those who hope it doesn’t. (But let’s make this party a beach-comment-free zone.)

The tagline for “06880″ is “Where Westport meets the world.” Next Thursday, that world comes to Compo.

Bring your own food, beverages, beach chairs and blankets. Then mix, mingle and enjoy the evening with the “06880″ crowd.

There’s no charge. It’s a “fun-raiser,” not a fundraiser.

See you next Thursday!

Save The Date: “06880” Beach Party Set For July 17

Mark your calendar: Thursday, July 17 (6 p.m.). That’s the date of the 2nd annual “06880” party.

Last year’s event was a great success. It was a true community gathering — a chance to meet and mingle with the diverse “06880” community (both online and real).

This year’s party will be even better. Unlike last year, it won’t be the hottest, most humid evening in the history of mankind. (We hope.)

We’ll gather at Compo Beach — the alcohol-is-okay end. Bring your own food, beverages, beach chairs and blankets. Like the website, “06880” simply provides space to get together, have a good time, chat, laugh, and of course bitch.

We expect a big turnout at our "06880" party on July 18.

We expect a big turnout at our “06880” party on July 17.

There’s no charge. It’s a “fun-raiser,” not a fundraiser.

The “06880” tagline is “Where Westport meets the world.” We call this party “where ‘06880’ meets each other.”

PS: We picked a Thursday because the beach is not as crowded as on weekends. As alert readers know, “06880” does not believe in reserving tables.

Today Is Party Day! (But Bring The Bug Spray)

It’s all good for tonight’s 1st-ever “06880” Compo Beach party.

We’re set for 6 p.m. at South Beach — the alcohol-is-fine end, furthest from the cannons.

Bring your own food and beverages (and bug spray — it’s sand fly season).

We’ll provide the “06880” community — a chance to meet the commenters and lurkers. To talk, laugh and trade stories about this wild, wacky and only slightly dysfunctional town we share and love.

See you tonight!

PS: Park carefully. You don’t want to end up on “06880,” do you?
