  1. Dan Do you mean to tell me that ugly log pile , right on a busy corner, is still there? It’s a real hazard, not just an eyesore! Can’t the town buy that tiny piece of land and get rid of those logs? How many decades have they been there? If it was April 1, I would’ve thought this was an April Fools joke.

    • Michael Brunetti

Mr. Backiel, thank you for thoughtful words concerning the log pile. In light of it being, as you write, “a real hazard” could you please let us have a list, even a partial list, of all accidents, incidents, etc. caused by this ugly eyesore. Westport demands to know…

  2. I am heartened by the log pile. A piece of old school Westport remains. It’s a prime spot for low income housing as it is walkable to food and shopping— ha — no seriously, who owns it I forgot?

  3. I remember when Bill Wanat used to park his dump trucks on that property. That might have been 50 years ago. Michael, if you are fine with the log pile and you think it adds to the beauty of Westport, it’s your choice. I just don’t understand why the town hasn’t purchased the property and cleaned it up. In my opinion, it’s ugly and potentially dangerous!

  4. Michael, Maybe the town can rename the road. Here’s a few ideas. How about Redneck Road? How about Tobacco Spit Trail? Maybe Hillbilly Lane would be a good name? Keep those logs coming. I’ll buy a 15 million dollar house on Dueling Banjo Drive!

What a rude comment. Arborists have a difficult and dangerous job and provide an essential service to Westport. Yet you offer a typical NIMBY response mocking the profession. And to answer Michael Brunetti’s question – none.

  5. Here’s another thought. Rats love log piles and wood piles because it gives them exactly what they need: hidden nesting spots. I wonder how many rats live on that property?

  6. This is my 5th, and due to the rules, my final comment!! I’ll be 80 years old on my next birthday and some things about Westport get my attention. This ridiculous eye sore of a log pile on Westport’s most important street is one. So my final thought is that unless those logs are removed, the street name shall be changed to Rat Feces Kobblestone Drive, or RFK Drive. I hope that those who constantly criticize me will take this name change as something lighthearted.

    • JACK: As for your suggested name changes, truth is sometimes stranger than fiction. Roseville Road was originally called POORTOWN ROAD. Changed to Roseville August 9,1935 by vote of the Westport Town Meeting. As Casey Stengel used to say “you could look it up” at the Town Clerk’s office.

  7. Helen Ranholm

Jack, why are you so concerned about the pile of wood, you don’t even live in Westport? I hope you are concerned about the place you do live and leave us alone.

  8. Thank you Helen! Sally Campbell

  9. Patricia McMahon

  10. YES….YES…YES…THANK YOU Helen.
