“Then & Now”: Part 6

There is no shortage of photos of now-demolished Westport ones — and the new ones that have replaced them.

Today, photographer Dave Matlow’s series takes us to 3 properties in the Old Hill neighborhood, and one off Compo Road South.

Was the first house pictured a historic house, or a newer build meant to look like one? If it was a historic house, demolishing it was a crime (figuratively speaking).

Five front peaks on the last one. These front loaded multi peaked homes look bloated and ridiculous.

    • Gotta agree Russell. I see IKEA and allen wrenches.

Westport isn’t New England, and certainly could never touch Medfield.

Well, at least since the new house now takes up a massive footprint compared to the demolished structure it should only take about 15 minutes to mow what little lawn they have left.

  4. Thank you David. This is a very interesting series

I guess the question for folks is whether they want stricter land use regulations and protections for historic structures – even if it reduces the value of their own property. The answer for most people is “no.” In which case – don’t complain. It’s not “land use regs for thee but not for me.”

The other thing I’d say is there’s lots of great architecture – old and, yes, occasionally, new – in town. Can’t we highlight that? I’m sick of seeing cheap SIR McMansions everywhere IRL. Why also in cyberspace?

The picture of the last home from March 2026 is the ugliest home I have ever seen in my life!!!
