So far, none of the homes put up to replace the torn down houses are nicer or better looking. They’re just bigger with their mulitple peaked fronts.

  2. Two car garages are standard and square footage increased.

Every new house is significantly larger than the one it replaced. Proving, at least for now, that Westport’s main draw is still the Public School System.

You have to wonder how sustainable it all is though, with US birth rates declining to 1.6 kids per family. The last time it was this low was the mid 70’s when Westport was closing and converting public schools for other use.

I suspect one day in the not so distant future we’ll miss a lot of those smaller, updatable, easier and cheaper to maintain homes that are now piles of rubble.

CT is very tax unfriendly, and once the kids leave, you suddenly feel very old in Westport.

My parents made the mistake of retaining the family home for a dozen extra years in hope that we’d come back for holidays, but even that fades away.

Maybe your kids move here someday, but they’ll be in their mid 30’s by then given today’s demographics.

We left for the UWS. In the city in your 50’s you’re young and running around to concerts and plays (home in 20 mins). In Westport you’re at the Whelk when they open for dinner and home with Netflix by 7.

  4. When I sell my one bedroom cottage, I hope it doesn’t get torn down! Any takers?
