Photo Challenge #580

“You can’t get there from here,” the saying goes.

Except — improbably — you can walk directly from Compo Road South to Compo Beach, without taking the long way on Soundview Drive or (even longer) Compo Beach Road.

Just pop through the gray wood gate, underneath a red brick arch.

It’s hidden in plain sight. But it was last week’s Photo Challenge (click here to see).

And it was quickly identified by more than a dozen readers, some of whom noted that they used it frequently.

Congrats to Bob Colson, Maureen Coogan, John McKinney, Joyce Barnhard, Missy Targowski, Kitty Graves, Dave Eason, Matt Murray, Nancy McKeever, Michael Szeto and Katie J. Phillis.

If we gave out prizes, you’d get a free beach sticker.

But obviously, you don’t need one.

Here is this week’s Photo Challenge. If you know where in Westport you’d see this, click “Comments” below.

  6. Burr Farms students used to have a shortcut to get to North Avenue, but it required trespassing on private property. Nevertheless to do things legally–to go down Burr School Road. over Long Lots and then through the lower part of North Avenue added a mile to the journey–guess which route we took. To get to High Point Rd, that Dan and I both lived on, would also require trespassing on private property if one lived on the wrong side of High Pt. Rd. Now the school constructed a fence blocking access to the school grounds from High Point. I guess it is to end the trespassing but also cuts off legal access to the school grounds. At one point I use to run three laps around the track every evening–probably the best shape I was ever in in my life.

  7. Cafe at Westport Library

  8. Library cafe👍

  9. I want to be at John Kelley’s Super Bowl party!

    They must have started early.

    • Unfortunately, as a New York Jets fan, even having had season tickets for their last 7 years at Shea, I’ve kind of had to stop following the Jets for the last decade to protect my mental health. The fact that Sam Darnold can succeed with another team shows something is deeply wrong with the Jets.

But my fandom goes back to when the AFL was a separate league, so I always root for original AFL teams.

  10. Correct: Westport Library cafe. I’m impressed how many people look at the ceiling there.
