The University of Connecticut men’s and women’s basketball teams are often among the top programs in the country.
Meanwhile, Staples High School’s boys and girls teams are both undefeated.
Go, Wreckers and Huskies!
The boys rout some of their toughest opponents by 30 or more points.
The girls recently knocked 2 teams from the unbeaten ranks.
The other day, photographer John Walker was at the Wreckers’ gym for a boys game.
Though only a freshman, John has a great eye for action. Here’s a look at some of his shots.

First, some wonderful pics! I particularly like the composition of the second photo (especially in the way it incorporates both the scoreboard and the players’ reflections on the floor). You should consider submitting that for a sports photo contest.
But my question is: do the photos capture the typical crowd size at Staples games? One would think that, with the teams being so good, the stands would be practically filled to capacity. Thanks.
The shot that shows half-filled stands (with the Staples bench players standing, and the Aitoro banner on the wall) shows the visitors’ side. Student support has been strong this year, and there are tons of elementary and middle school kids at games too.
A super year for the Wreckers men’s bb this year but a clarification for UConn’s “up and down” year so far. Men’s and women’s combined record is 38-1. I’d say it’s an “up…” year so far.
John’s photos are amazing, thanks for showcasing them! The Staples basketball teams are fortunate to benefit from John’s skill and creativity, as well as from talented Staples student photographers, junior Ryan Allen (previously featured in 06880 for his awesome soccer photos) and freshman Pranay Kalati. Thank you to the student photographers for capturing great highlights of the games and preserving the memories for years to come.
