Photo Challenge #569

When Ralph Sheffer served as Representative Town Meeting moderator — from 1959 to ’69 — the handsome building on the Myrtle Avenue hill was Bedford Elementary School.

For the past 40 years, it’s been Town Hall. Once a month, the RTM meets in its auditorium.

Sheffer — the RTM’s 5th moderator, and at the time its longest-serving leader — now has a place of honor there.

He’s remembered with an old-fashioned iron sign, on the right side of the lobby.

That was last week’s Photo Challenge. Andrew Colabella, Sal Liccione (both RTM veterans), Tom Feeley, Patty Strauss (longtime town clerk) and Lynn Untermeyer Miller knew exactly where it is. (Click here to see.)

Ann Sheffer emailed privately. She knew too. But as the daughter of the honoree, she thought it would not be fair to chime in.

This week’s Photo Challenge is open to everyone. If you know where in Westport you’d see this, click “Comments” below.”

Parking lot at Trader Joe’s. Tricks on you, there are no good ways out of that lot…

  4. Joyce Barnhart

I don’t need signs in Trader Joe’s lot so I don’t know where this is. Can somebody tell me, please?

is this the parking lot – Trader Joe’s etc is located ?????

  6. TJ’s lot. The best way out of that lot is to go around Wells Fargo Bank and turn right onto PRE..Always plan your stops so you can turn right..LOL. I’ve turned into my mother.

  7. Correct. Heading toward the back of the Trader Joe’s lot, after passing through the clusterf*** of an entrance.

Adding to Dave Eason’s great tip (above): always park in either the Wells Fargo area, or the back area (beyond the “Route 1” sign. Much, much easier to get out of your spot.

  8. Trader’s has parking? Who knew? 🙂

    Trader Joe’s nightmare parking lot?

Trader Joe’s. The stone facade in the background with the high fence.

  11. Who made the lovely Moderator Sheffer sign?

  12. Oh no!! Why did you guys have to give away the Wells Fargo trick?? Yes: always turn right onto the Post Road and you’ll rarely encounter any eastbound traffic. Magic! But this may change now: I fear for my future parking.

  13. Oh those charming Garrett Thew signs were a Westport home’s treasure. Where have they all disappeared to?
