Power remains out to almost 600 customers near downtown.
‘The outage — just after 11 a.m. — was caused by “tree limbs,” according to the Eversource website.

Roger Leifer was on Post Road East, just before Imperial Avenue, when he captured this dramatic explosion of the power line at Myrtle Avenue.
The utility estimated restoration by 6:30 p.m.
But it took nearly 4 hours — until shortly before 3 p.m. — for a repair crew to arrive.’
Meanwhile, drivers inched slowly around cones, set up underneath inoperable traffic lights.
But hey — at least the sun is out!
PS: The Levitt’s free concert tonight — Dogs in a Pile — is still on!

Power was restored at about 4:30. I was in the back of the shop and heard an explosion and the lights went out and then came on a few seconds later. I heard another report and I went towards the front and saw smoke across the street. When I stepped out front there was a very loud sizzling and electrical buzzing/humming sound and the most intense light I have ever seen! I little scary to say the least!
Good reporting Roger👍🏼🇺🇸
Thanks Jay yes yes Thanks to our Westport fire department and ever source to get back on so fast everybody texting me the town did great job today it was long sorry to imperial ave it was so long from sal liccione
In defense of Eversource- we had an outage last evening in the Old Hill area caused by a connector that blew itself apart- only affected 3 houses but Eversource were there within 45 minutes of us reporting the outage and had it fixed within an hour or so- in the rain. Tech was on his own, in the rain, up a bucket with his truck parked in the street with no help to guide/slow traffic which I felt was unsafe. He also told me that his shift was from 8 am that morning to 8 am the following day, which also sounds unsafe.
Easy and mostly justified to rag on Eversource but this minimal staffing level seems demotivating to say the least!
Amazing photograph Roger !
