Motor Running, Bentley Stolen From Driveway

Don’t leave your car running in your driveway. Lock your cars and homes. Be cognizant of your surroundings.

Those are 3 takeaways, following yesterday’s theft of a 2020 Bentley.

Just before 3 p.m., Westport Police say, a resident pulled into his driveway and went indoors, leaving the vehicle running.

While inside, he “witnessed unknown suspects steal his car.”

He called police. Officers saw the car traveling at a high rate of speed, but did not pursue.

A tracking device led to recovery of the vehicle in Elmhurst, New York, by the New York Police Department. They also arrested 2 people in a different stolen vehicle, traveling with the Bentley.

Westport Police say: “This incident comes on the heels of (last week’s) burglary near Compo Beach. Although not confirmed, Westport PD has a working theory that the victim in this case may have been followed due to the value of his vehicle.”

A 2020 Bentley (not the one stolen in Westport).

Hmmm… Don’t leave the Bentley running in the driveway. We’ll be sure to remember that. What a great New Year’s resolution! Thanks! 😉

  2. Oh c’mon, really? Asking for trouble?

  3. Congratulations to the officers involved for breaking off the pursuit. A wise policy. Recovering property is not worth endangering lives. And unnecessary, as this case shows.

  4. Confucius Say man who don’t lock Bentley, needs to think better mentally

Well, I never do this with my Bentley. Plus here in Texas trying to steal someone’s car from their driveway is an excellent way to get shot.

    • Though CT has no “stand your ground” law as does Texas, we do have the “Castle Doctrine” which clearly states that one has the right to use “Deadly force” to protect ones self AND ONE’S PROPERTY. Having printed that, I must add that when I asked Chief Kostkinas about firing a gun at an intruder he said “Please don’t. Totally illegal. Reckless use of a firearm”.

        Hi Dan!!! (Katz, not Woog),
You say CT has the “Castle Doctrine.” Well, what else would you expect? “A man’s house is his castle.” Especially if he tore down three affordable houses to make room for it. But I’d recommend pepper spray instead of firearms.

A fool and his Bentley are soon parted.

  7. Blame the victim, not the criminal, and be sure to constrain the police!

  8. I guess the secret is out. I bought Eric Buchroeder SHS ‘70 a Bentley as a Christmas present! I know he locks his cars.

I already sold it Jack. Traded it in on a “gently used” Tesla squad car (from the WPD). Much better for the environment. Jen and Foti are giving me free driving lessons (from the back seat while they’re kissin’ and a huggin’ with Fred). That way if the bad guy from Elmhurst steals it from my driveway he’ll run out of juice before he gets to Norwalk. Merry Christmas!!!

  9. I can’t feel sorry for anyone stupid enough to leave a car running in the middle of the driveway.

Hi Bobbie (Herman, not Sox, Pin or Valentine)
Compassion (even for Bentley owners – they know not what they do) is the reason for the season.

  10. people that leave their vehicles running with keys, keys in the vehicle, vehicles unlocked, etc, are all inviting crime right into town. thank your neighbors for inviting crime!

Sounds like a good title for a new book? “Who Stole My Unlocked Bentley from My Driveway on Christmas?” Sort of like “What do you say to a Naked Bus Driver?”

    • Scooter, You write the book and I’ll write a song to go with it, and we’ll contact Sean Cunningham in Encino, California and make a movie from the book! “Friday the 13th someone stole my Bentley.”

Sounds like a winner . . . speaking of Sean, his brother, Kevin, is still looking to get paid from their first movie and was hoping for a part in “Friday the 13, the 13th.” Our very own, Steve Miner (’66) is also available for directorship. That said, I just lost my editing job to AI, no BS.

        • Kevin went into the Marines with D. Parise, Matt MacVane and Peter Kluchnick. I’m sure you know all four. Actually the last time I was in Westport, I stopped in the library and bumped into Kevin. I used to play pool with Sean, Kevin and Noel around 1961.

          • Scooter, In 1966, Sean lived above a garage and I used to go there and he helped me out with my Creative Writing class and I got an A-. In 1980, Friday the 13th, made 75 million and Sean got 15 million! I was good friends with all the Cunninghams. Noel became a doctor, but works in Encino now with Sean.

Kevin was a good friend at the ole YMCA when I returned to CT in 2005, when he was a racket ball fanatic. Now he is the “The Pickle Ball” king of the town. Indeed, Kevin joined the Marines with those you mentioned along with Dale Hopkins (’66) Despite his willingness, he was the only one to avoid Vietnam, riding a desk in CA for his service. Sean, Wes Craven and Steve Miner got their real start with the movie “Last House on the Left,” which was filmed here. All have done super in Hollywood. Kevin’s son is a documentary film maker.

Simple: “That’s not a gear shift. Put your pants back on.”

  12. Had a silver Audi 4000 stolen in Elmhurst Queens ( bad place). Local head cop said “File loss claim. It’s either chopped or on a boat to Brazil.” Dude was very lucky to get it before it was gone.

  13. The sad thing about all these comments is that many years ago in Westport you just didn’t have to lock anything. I was growing up then and we never locked things.

Peter,my mom used to say same thing, in Weston, during the 1950’s and early 1960’s. ..’a Different Culture’,for sure..
