Photo Challenge #514

If a Photo Challenge stumps Andrew Colabella, you know it’s very challenging.

Last week’s did just that. The Representative Town Meeting member/Staples graduate/man who knows everything swung and missed last Sunday.

He incorrectly identified the image — a dummy dressed in flannel and jeans, with a pumpkin for a head — as being at Wakeman Town Farm.

Nope!

But Andrew quickly rallied. He was at Izzo & Son Country Gardens, on Post Road East across from the Regents Park condos, and realized it was there.

Yep!

That was a tough one. (Click here to see the photo.)

Is this easier? If you know where in Westport you’d see this, click “Comments” below.

  1. Looks like something that might be on the Barons property.

  2. It’s the old fountain behind The baron’s mansion on south compo.

  3. Lynn Untermeyer Miller

    Baron South property.

  4. Baron’s South

  5. Fountain at Golden Shadows – located in an abandoned and contaminated public park known as Baron’s South. Locally known as the place where hope goes to die.

I will agree with my teachers Chip and Morley, This is the fountain at golden shadows Barons property.

His final resting place is Willowbrook Cemetery, the large white mausoleum.

    • I believe that masuleum is also known as Golden Shadows. Both Walter and his first wife – who predeceased him – are interred there. Allegedly there’s also a record player in there too which the Baron used to play his late wife’s favorite music whenever he visited. In death as in life, this wildly successful couple blurred the line between their personal and professional lives; Golden Shadows was also the name of one of their signature perfumes.

And he bought the property far from the city to be free from any disturbances of pollution when smelling his new perfumes?

  11. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the Westport Community Gardens could incorporate this treasure in their new location?

  12. It is indeed Baron’s South, on Compo Road South. I’m impressed how many Westporters have walked that great, but somewhat hidden, property.
