Congratulations, Pat Saviano!
You were the only reader to correctly identify last week’s Photo Challenge. The strange photo — of a model of a 1950s-era car dangling in mid-air — can be found on the side of the Westport police station.
Click here to see the image. It was one of our most difficult challenges ever.
This week’s is (hopefully) easier. If you know where you’d see this, click “Comments” below.

perhaps at the Westport Senior Center display of illustrations by Westport artists?
Perhaps this is the painting on a shop wall on Main Street that was discovered during a renovation? I believe the space was formerly a restaurant.
Wasn’t this hidden behind a wall in Klein’s?
Mural in the old Klein’s. More recently Oka. And still on the wall for what’s coming … Sushijin?
There was a mural in Klein’s? Where was it?
Hidden mural in the old Klein’s / Oka?
Klein’s old mural, now Oka.
This mural was originally on a long wall in the Townley restaurant. I was about 5 or 6 the first time I saw it, when my family went there for dinner. It was quite intriguing to a child. The Townley was a typical mid century restaurant with a bar room adjacent to the fairly small dining area and a room in the back, where people had meetings. I have a very vague memory of doing a little Christmas performance with the Orphenians in 1963, for the Rotary club or some similar group. Very vague on that one. Banana Republic rescued the wall and it was visible there for many years.
Quite certain – old mural from Kleins
Mural painted on the wall inside Oka, formerly Banana Republic and Kleins on Main Street.
It was the mural from Klein’s — but, as Jane Nordli notes above, it was not visible at that long-time and much-loved Main Street department store.
The mural hung on the wall of the original tenant, the Townly restaurant. Then came Klein’s, which remodeled the interior and covered it up. It was discovered during a renovation by Banana Republic, then retained when Oka took over.
It’s still visible. Let’s hope it remains when Sushi Jin takes over.
Mural in Staples high school

The mural that appeared at Banana Republic. Was found during store renovations when Kleins moved out
Mural the was uncovered when banana republic was here – Janet Alberty
