Police Offer Update On Today’s Nixle Alert

Westport Police say:

At approximately 2:45 p.m. today (Tuesday, September 10), Westport Police were alerted to a person who had absconded supervision from St. Vincent’s Behavioral Health at 47 Long Lots Road.

The person has a history of behavioral health issues, as well as domestic violence arrests.

This information, as well as the time of day and school dismissal, guided our response in issuing a Nixle alert.

We set up a perimeter, deployed our drone team, and requested a K-9.

The party was on probation, and fitted with a mobile tracking bracelet. Working with Probation, we tracked him to Compo Road South, where an off-duty police officer located and detained the subject at approximately 3:35 pm.

The party was returned to St. Vincent’s Behavioral Health without issue.  Westport Police will continue to investigate this incident.

Westport PD has too many toys, their drone program is especially prone to abuse as was seen during the pandemic when they were flying around scanning people without consent and the story made the New York Times and made our town look bad. If an off duty officer was able to apprehend the fugitive on foot, why are we tax payers funding this silly drone program? Can WPD provide a use case example for how the drone has actually helped in criminal matters, or guidelines on how the drone is used so we know its not being sent to creep on innocent people?

  5. i live in the neighborhood for for over 30 years and this only has happened once before last week when the same exact thing happened around the same time of day. Is there a breach in security over there or are they understaffed? kudos to the Westport police for catching them both times but what is actually going on at this facility and what are they doing to prevent it from happening again?
