Disgusting
Title of picture of the day Crossword Puzzle
I would bet that half the wires there are dead/not in use but there is no way to separate and remove them. Also, there is no salvage value to fiber optic cable.
A friend in the energy industry writes:
“100% of the wires in that photo are telecommunications wires, either currently in use by Optimum/Cablevision or Frontier…but many of which are abandoned and no longer in use wires formerly strung by one of those two companies or by predecessor telecomm companies like AT&T, SNET, etc. When a company like that ceases business or the old wire becomes obsolete, they usually abandon the old wire…leaving that hideous looking mess!
“Eversource still has their wires further up that pole but out of the frame of that photo.
“And the road widening/make safe project that runs either side of that pole along Rte 1, is dragging along largely due to the snails pace these same telecomm companies take to shift all that wire over to the new poles set months and months ago…which Eversource shifted within weeks all their power wires and transformers to.”
line abandonment is a problem that has been going on for many years. Just look up to see the many abandoned poles throughout town. Total irresponsibility. We are clearly at a point that demands an aggressive response.
Absolutely breathtaking. Iconic Westport. It never gets old.
