A Colony Road resident was drinking coffee this morning.
Glancing outside, he saw a young man — late teens or early 20s — walking down the street, hauling a dumpster.
He stopped at a house across the street, with an Israel flag on the lawn. He seemed to check to see if anyone was looking, then stuffed the flag in his dumpster and continued walking.
The resident got in his car, and took a picture:
Worried what would happen if he confronted someone who would do such a thing, he returned home and called the police.
When he went back out a few minutes later, the young man “seemed to have disappeared,” the resident said. “Maybe he was picked up by someone.”
A detective quickly arrived.
The neighbor had already replaced her Israel flag. But as the officer and the resident who called were at his front door discussing the incident, a white car with New York plates pulled up across the street.
Someone different from the first incident jumped out, grabbed the new sign, and zoomed away. He did not see the police car — but the detective saw it all.
He tried to pursue them, but was too late.
“I’m pretty sure what I saw the first time,” the Colony Road resident.
“I was hoping though, there might be a reasonable explanation. But I know what I saw the second time. Those signs were definitely stolen.”
He’s right.
That resident’s 2 flags were not the only ones taken. A resident told “06880” that other Israel flags — perhaps a dozen, up and down Colony Road, Salem Road and Terhune Drive — have also disappeared.

Why block out the A-hole’s face?
I would say that there’s no need to “unblock” the face as far as public distribution of the image is concerned. Is there really any doubt the WPD will nail this guy? The risk is that publishing it openly while police are investigating will trigger some type of technicality “get out of jail free card.” If I were still local I’d be wearing a Star of David armband like the Danes did in WWII. We’re ALL Jews now.
The process starts with securing our borders. Every other country on the planet does it. We’ve completely lost control with the current administration.
We need to stop associating a secure border with Trump, and Google the Obama speeches about how secured borders are critical to national security.
We’ve lost control of NYC, it was only a matter of time until it bled into the suburbs. Protests disrupted people trying to watch the Christmas tree lighting, protesters paraded a bloody nativity scene in front of St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Christmas Day, and then blocked everyone trying to get to JFK.
You reap what you sow. We have an open entrance to waves of masses who love nothing better than what just happened on the streets of Westport today.
You can replace your flags, I’d also lock your doors.
Please briefly explain how you blame unsecure borders with this act of vandalism!?? Was it the wardrobe?(I can see he is dressed like so many of the people we see crossing our borders.) Or was it the fact that he made his getaway in a white car? (I did hear NYC was providing all immigrants with a car and driver.) Security is a basic human need. It comes in many forms. Border security. National security. Personal security. Information security. You name it. Lack of security has gotten so pervasive at so many levels that it has even threatened Westport. This is the latest threat. The upcoming election will hopefully cause voters at all levels to hold the politicians responsible from Tooker to Biden. From Westport to Tijuana. From the Saugatuck to The Sound. Actually it was more likely Dan was looking to protect the community. It is impossible at this point to say who/what was behind the miscreant. All Westport needs is to have 25000 Westporters out with torches/pitchforks looking for the guy. Let Chief Koskinas and his merry band handle the law enforcement duties. Any Westporters that want to fight back against hate crimes are welcome to pick up trash on the major thoroughfares. Just make sure to wear a DOT approved reflective vest.
