School has been out for almost a week.
But it’s never too late to acknowledge one building’s Unsung Hero.
Joan Lasprogato is not a teacher or principal. She doesn’t even work inside.
But for 7 years, she’s been a “godsend” at Long Lots Elementary School.
That’s Dave Briggs’ word. But it’s echoed by hundreds of grateful parents.
“Instead of being angry at rude, fast drivers, she kills with kindness every day,” Dave says.
“She gives dogs greats, kids special greetings, and makes sure our children get to and from school safely.”

His daughter insisted on getting her a new, bedazzled crossing guard vest.
Our schools are filled with Unsung Heroes. Our crossing guards may be the most unsung-est of all.
But they are as important as anyone in our district.
Thank you Joan — and all your colleagues, at every school crosswalk in town.

Public school staff are under appreciated and severely underpaid. There are so many devoted kind staff that contribute to our children. We need to take care of school employees and associated staff.
We used to live on Joan’s road and she was always a wonderful neighbor. I know that she has been especially helpful during the pandemic to a couple of other former neighbors who are very elderly with health issues. Her late husband Bob was such a nice guy too. Good choice!
Yes!!! She is wonderful & always has a smile for everyone!
Thank you for all you do Joan!😃🎉
Hats off to the crossing guard at Coleytown El too – the kids love him
A rainbow colored vest would look really nice on those crossing guards!!!! 🏳️🌈
Joan’s friendliness and willingness to help extends beyond her job as well. i have lived next door to joan for 14 years and she is always willing to rescue a package from the pouring rain, leave our newspapers on the back step when we are away or even clean up our garbage that the raccoons got into and spread all over the driveway while we were on vacation!!!!
