I appreciate your thoughtful essay. I would say that in this situation walking over there or shouting if necessary, “hey, what are you doing? What you are doing is illegal! I will be calling the police and reporting a description to them of what I have witnessed! Or going over there to try to teach. We can not be bystanders in the moment if and when possible. We must stand up in real time in the face of all types of bad behavior. This can be done with manners and respect not stooping to the same level of bad behavior. We are not powerless, you showed many ways that you were not, bravo for all you did that day, I am sure you sowed many seeds into the children you were helping.
