Pics Of The Day #991

As Westport Pizzeria’s days dwindle, local politicians — and News 12 — gathered to honor the legendary restaurant. Among them (from left): 2nd Selectman Jen Tooker, 1st Selectman Jim Marpe (in a Pizzeria 50th anniversary shirt), owner Mel Mioli, state legislators Tony Hwang and Gail Lavielle, and Westport Weston Chamber of Commerce director Matthew Mandell.

SURPRISED NOT TO SEE A LOT OF MIOLIS. PROBABLY THEY WERE THERE BUT DIDN’T RATE A WOOG PIC . . .AGAIN GOOD LUCK IN YOUR RETIREMENT YEARS. CARYL

  2. NOT ‘celebrating demise’….HONORING Mel for all that he gives to Westport…for who he is as well as how delicious his pizza has always been.
I moved here in ’69 and Westport Pizzeria has been a well-loved symbol of Westport all this time.

  3. As noted in the caption: “honoring,” not c”elebrating.”

  4. Just wondering why the Reps who actually represent the district in which Westport Pizza sits, were not invited to the party.

    • It looks like a group of Republican officials simply arranged to get together, that’s all. Even the co-owner and former Democratic State Rep, Mel’s brother Joe, is not in attendance.

  5. My parents weren’t really pizza people, but once I was old enough to ride the Minnybus downtown, Westport Pizzeria became a regular stop. How many times did I sit at that counter? Happy, tasty memories!
