Pic Of The Day #795

  1. I LOVE seeing people reading an actual book, on the subway, MTA, wherever.

I always wonder, “Who ARE these people??”

And of course, “What are they reading??” It’s often very tough to catch a glimpse of the title, let me tell you.

The current pic: He could be on the last pages of “The Magic Mountain.” (I never expect to see someone with a backward baseball cap reading Thomas Mann alongside a summer’s day on the banks of the Saugatuck.)

And ESPECIALLY I love it if the book’s pages are yellowed, the cover in disrepair. It happens surprisingly often. And usually rules out some disappointing, wearisome dreck like Dan Brown or Jaqueline Susann.

2 years ago on the subway, I saw a guy reading Vonnegut’s “The Sirens of Titan.” He said he was loving it. Myself, I’m in the middle of about 5 books (including a 3rd read of Sirens of Titan), fiction and non–so hard to finish these days(!))
