Yesterday was National Gun Violence Awareness Day. The official color was orange.
A group of Westporters followed up today, with an informational display at the corner of Post Road and Main Street.
They’ll be there until 4 p.m. — raising awareness, and wearing orange.

This is the hometown I remember and still love.
Westport and CT are going in the right direction BUT sadly nothing will change until the leadership of our country changes and commits to taking real action against gun violence and accessibility to guns.Band aids don’t help.

I share your frustration over the death grip that the powerful gun lobby has over our Federal Government, but I am increasingly optimistic by the action being taken in many Town Councils and State Legislatures. CT and RI just banned Bump stocks, many States have passed Red Flag laws, and several now require background checks on ALL gun sales. Every action counts. The tide is turning. Hopefully this will lead to change in Washington. When the environmental movement started, its slogan was ‘Think Globslly, Act Locally.” We need to do the same with Gun Violence Prevention and commonsense gun safety.
We get searched when we fly. We get searched when we go to a sporting event . We get searched when we go into a government building. Politicians have armed guards to protect them. I’m all for stricter gun control but it’s about time we start really thinking of protecting our schools.
