Anne Hathaway Moves Here?

If you believe the New York Post‘s Page Six, Westport has welcomed a boldface name new neighbor:

Anne Hathaway and husband Adam Shulman are spending Thanksgiving weekend in their brand-new seaside hideaway on the Connecticut shore.

Locals are buzzing that the couple has bought a $2.8 million, 5-bedroom, 5-bathroom home near Compo Beach in tony Westport, Conn. A spy spotted the new neighbors picking up Thanksgiving supplies in a local store.

New neighbors?

The 1920s cottage for the pair — who purchased a $2.55 million Upper West Side apartment last year — is 5,000 square feet built on 1 acre with an AGA range, an outdoor kitchen and “ornamental English gardens,” according to a listing.

Reps didn’t get back to us.

A search of recent real estate transactions did not turn up a sale to either the award-winning actress or her husband. However, Westporters have spotted her around town for a while now.

Meanwhile, here’s my question: Since when is a 5-bedroom, 5-bath house a “cottage”?

  1. Since the late 1800s when The Breakers in Newport was considered a “cottage”

Its time for an updated list of “beautiful people” that live in Westport. I’ve lost track.

And does anyone really care Eric? This kind of publicity is why I left the area 18 years ago.

  3. Maybe another example of inflation. 🤔

  4. The Lockwood Mathews Mansion Museum on West Avenue (in nearby Norwalk), the 62 room mid-1860’s summer cottage built by LeGrand Lockwood, was designed to be the summer cottage for himself and his family…it happens that the doors are now open for a new exhibit celebrating the Victorian Holiday Traditions of The Lockwoods’ and others in Norwalk…quite a cottage, this one, as well.

    “Anne Hathaway”? Shakespeare’s wife?

Get a life…..let these lovely people have their privacy. We abound with
amazingly talented people in this town and their gifts enrich all of us.
Just allow quiet anonymity for those who desire to get away from the “Rat Race”
and enjoy our community for the wonderful resources it offers.Julie Fatherley

  8. Please just let them relax and bothered my news story ok our town is peaceful for those that live here

  9. should be good for the tax base

  10. “Anne Hathaway’s Cottage” in famous Westport-upon-Stratford-upon-Avon – CT!

I am sure she enjoys the exact privacy and quiet life that Westport has to offer, and hopes for things to remain as “normal” as possible. While it’s a wonderful exposure for your establishment (I am sure she loves it for all the right reasons), it’s not “cool”, for the lack of a better word, to just announce where she could be found very morning…

    Ditto.

  13. Who are these people and why does anybody care about them?

  14. Jaime Bairaktaris

But why on Earth is this needed?

  15. Our mutual friend Carole Schweid just returned from a visit to Newport, RI, where she reports the “cottages” are considerably larger. Talk about a misnomer.
