Staples ??? I have not been there in 20 years, but it was the first thing that came to mind as soon as I saw the picture…
Yes — though now they’re hidden by much of the new construction.
This is the outside wall of the auditorium at Staples High School.

The upper part of the front of the Staples Theater, before it was enclosed. And at no time did we use those protruding blocks to climb up to hang signs for Players productions, that would have been unsafe
Nor did anyone in Staples’ Class of 1979 climb up there on the night before graduation and place an empty beer can or liquor bottle on each protrusion as a senior prank.

I know there were a lot of correct answers already, but I just have to say that the off-set cement blocks jumped out at me the minute I saw them. I graduated from Staples in 1973, and had three older sisters that graduated from Staples in the 60’s.
When I first saw the image, I thought to myself that it was impossible after all the remodeling and new construction that this feature could still exist. But I guess I am wrong!
As a member of Orchestra & Bands, that building was home base to me every morning. Very nostalgic for such a mundane architectural feature.

Jonathan, you have put to paper (or more accurately to screen) my same thoughts. How have those simple blocks survived all this time-and how is it that they are so welcoming and heartwarming?

“Old Timers”? I resemble that remark you young whipper-snapper [LOL] !! I love “06880” and how it helps me to stay connected to the town I grew up in (about ten years after the dinosaurs became extinct).
Like everyone else I knew what those were the minute I saw the picture – and I am just as surprised this feature (or some section of it) survived through TWO major renovations (the most recent being an almost completely new school), nice nod to the last. And now my own son starts at Staples in about a month . . .

Front wall, but no longer the “entrance.” The auditorium is now connected to the rest of the Staples building — it’s no longer separate. Part of the upper facade survives, however.
I had to peek…but I did think it was Staples! !
