The Wild Pear — the oddly named “Fresh Food Fast” place on Church Lane, a few steps from the Spotted Horse and Westport Y — has closed.
Previously, the small spot housed the original Chef’s Table.
Too bad neither of them could make it work. Both offered good soups, sandwiches and salads, but with very limited seating.
Too bad too that neither lasted long enough to take advantage of what will be an intriguing redevelopment of the area, once a retail/residential complex replaces the YMCA.
Perhaps the 3rd time is the charm.
If I am not mistaken, this was the building that just went to P&Z to get a zone change to allow them to have a larger restaurant with relief from parking. If this is the case, then we should be seeing something new in its place. This replacement should be in tune with the changes occuring to downtown.
There is a thriving “Chef’s Table,” in Fairfield Center on the Post Road. Don’t know it the two Chef’s Tables were related.
They are. There was another one in Westport too. It was next to Carvel, at the site of the old Arcudi’s and current Aux Delices.
Restaurants come and restaurants go. In Westport, so many new ones are opening, and although I would like to see them all succeed, it’s only inevitable that some won’t. I wonder if anyone has ever figured out the average life span of a restaurant in Westport.
This makes me sad – I loved their salads!
