This is not the first time “06880” has hailed Ruben, the beloved Westport post office clerk. And it probably won’t be the last.

I wanted to take a moment to recognize Ruben from the post office at Playhouse Square for going above and beyond to help a customer.
I came into the post office with a large, bulky box I wanted to send to my parents in Florida. Because of the size of the box, I was told it would cost $33 to ship.
Ruben asked me what was inside. When I said it was a blanket, he suggested a much less expensive way to send it. He took the blanket out of the box, carefully folded and rolled it, and found a large mailing envelope that would work.
The result? My shipping cost was cut in half: just $16.

There was a line behind me, so I initially felt badly about taking up additional time. But Ruben didn’t seem bothered at all. He simply took the extra time to find a better solution.
He wasn’t just doing his job — he was looking out for his customer, and making sure I wasn’t spending money unnecessarily.
It’s little acts of kindness and going the extra mile that make a difference. Ruben is truly an unsung hero. I want to make sure his thoughtfulness and excellent customer service don’t go unrecognized.
