Westport’s Favorite Party

Every year, Westport’s 4th of July bash gets bigger.

And better.

A little rain did not dampen the spirits of last night’s crowd.

There was room enough on the beach for everyone — barely. Soundview was packed. Parties rocked nearly every house in the neighborhood.  Bands played, food was eaten, drinks were drunk.

Oh, yeah. There were fireworks too. It was a fantastic celebration, Westport-style.

Is this a great town, or what?

Westport’s nail salons had a busy afternoon.

Westport Parks & Rec director Stuart McCarthy helps direct traffic into the beach. His department, police, fire, EMTs — all have the drill down pat.

The Compo Beach pavilion frames a late afternoon scene. The fireworks barge is anchored offshore.

One boy proudly wears his colonial outfit…

…while another is just as proud in his top hat.

The unsung heroes of the fireworks: Westport PAL volunteers.

Every kid wants to climb the lifeguard stand. The flags are an added attraction.

Everyone has a favorite spot to watch the fireworks. This is the crowd at the Schlaet’s Point jetty, where Soundview intersects with Hillspoint Road.
