Last month, tragedy struck Newtown’s children.
Over the holiday, Westport children responded.
Visiting Florida, Max, Jack and Sam Eigen — 11, 9 and 7 years old, respectively — collected shells with holes in them.
They added hemp string and colored beads, to create necklace-making kits. Calling them “Shells of Hope,” the boys began selling them for $5 each. All proceeds will go to Newtown-related help.
Back in Westport, the boys went door-to-door. Their mother Cindy — a 1988 Staples grad — sent an email to friends; they forwarded it along to others. In just 2 days, they raised over $1,000.
Max, Jack and Sam have plenty more necklace-making kits to sell. They’re available this Friday (January 11), 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the Westport Public Library lobby. Enjoy!
