4-Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do:

• Is it the truth?
• Is it fair to all concerned?
• Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
• Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Difficult questions, huh?  How can anyone — let alone a high school student — answer them?

But the Westport Rotary and Westport Sunrise Rotary want them to try.

Building on those questios — the international organization’s “4-Way Test” — the 2 clubs are helping sponsor a speech contest in the lower 4 counties of Connecticut.  The aim is to get teenagers to study, apply and communicate Rotary’s 4-Way Test as a moral and ethical model for behavior, decision-making and life practice.

Cash prizes are awarded to the top 3 speakers in Westport’s town finals.  The winner goes on to higher levels of competition, hoping for more money.  All without, one hopes, compromising his or her principles.
