“06880” Podcast: Rev. John Branson

For more than 20 years at Christ & Holy Trinity Church, Rev. John Branson was a conscience of Westport.

His commitment to social justice, and his efforts on behalf of his entire community, were hallmarks of his service here.

After he retired, Rev. Branson and his wife Judyth moved to North Carolina. But he was called back to several pulpits. Now he’s back in Westport.

In a wide-ranging chat the other day at the Westport Library, Rev. Branson talked about his route to the ministry, the evolution of the Episcopal Church, the “least and the lost,” the people and places of this town, and much, much more.

Please bring him back. The long slide downhill for Westport followed his departure from a special place to a place that thinks it’s special.

  2. Welcome back John and Judyth!

So good to see the Rev. Branson (and Dan) looking so well. His predecessors baptized and confirmed me almost 70 years ago. He married my best Bubba Hank and his lovely Barbara in ‘92, christened my dearest Goddaughter Leal 27 years ago and oversaw the funeral of my beloved late mother Martha 20 years ago next month. Westport’s history may be relative these days but the blessings that have flowed from this beloved church go back to its origins as a tavern before the revolution. George was there. Westport has always been a special place (let’s not blow it now, OK?).
