Homeopathic “Home Vet” Helps Pets Heal

From the 1980s until 15 years ago, Dr. Jeff Feinman was Westport’s “HomeVet.”

With clients like Paul Newman, Keir Dullea and Patti Davis — and hundreds of less famous, but equally loving pet owners — he was known for his house calls.

Inside their homes — watching dynamics between animals and humans — he developed a holistic approach to treatment.

Medications like antibiotics and anti-inflammatories have their place, “Dr. Jeff” notes. But he helps pets (and their owners) heal naturally too.

A  neurodegenerative disease led to Dr. Jeff’s pivot to online treatment. His HomeVet site offers advice like: Do a “sniff walk” with your pet. Let it engage with the environment, and “feel the awe of nature.”

Many problems have to do with their owners, he says. Their worries can exacerbate issues for their pets.

“Dogs and cats go with the flow,” Dr. Jeff says. “Humans get in the way, with all our own fears.”

Now he’s gone one step further. His newest site, HolisticActions, offers new ways to learn how holistic care and conventional veterinary medicine work together. Through forums, webinars and consultations, members can access professional advice and community support.

With one-on-one guidance, Dr. Jeff is returning to the personal approach he enjoyed when he was just starting here.

This past Friday morning, he had a 2-hour consultation scheduled with an owner in Pennsylvania. The dog had diarrhea, and skin, ear and behavioral problems.

Dr. Jeff planned to advise the owner on upgrading his pet’s diet, from processed to fresh food. He’d talk about ways to re-engage with the animal, to help the dog re-engage with the world.

Some of the pets Dr. Jeff Feinman has treated over the years.

The vet points to a Westport client’s dog, diagnosed with nasal cancer that had metastasized to the brain.

With chemotherapy and radiation, the pet’s prognosis was 6 months. Following Dr. Jeff’s homeopathic protocol, he says, the animal lived for 18 months — pain-free.

“Researching and teaching love-based strategies that heal pets are my all-consuming passions,” Dr. Jeff says.

“I’m enjoying reconnecting with our Westport community, to help in any way I can.”

  1. Dr. Feinman sounds like a wonderful, caring vet. But with all due respect, homeopathy is utter quackery. The “medicine” is made by repeated dilutions to the point that not a single molecule remains except expensive water. On the plus side, it can’t hurt the patient — unless it’s used instead of some real treatment.

    • Steve, I’d be honored and happy to discuss the current medical model and EBM (Evidence Based Medicine + Experience) if you’d ever like to do so. Our conversation would have more to do with healing than homeopathy.

Would it be disrespectful to ask if Dr. Feinman accepts Medicare? “Woof” means “Yes” and a quiet whimper means “No.”

Are you serious? Half the medical doctors in Westport don’t take Medicare. More and more aren’t taking any insurance at all.

    What boorish replies!
Dr Feinman, despite his own medical issues, is dedicated to sharing his many years of expertise to heal the creatures he loves. His successes speak for themselves. There is a place in the veterinary field for both allopathic medicine and a more holistic approach. Both have successes and failures.
I’m a trainer and nutritionist for animals for 20+ years and have concluded that the processed food we feed our pets, the toxic preventatives we give them and over abundance of dangerous meds can contribute to disease and shorter life span!

My cats have been patients of Dr. Feinman’s for the entirety of their 18 years. Over that time his holistic/homeopathic approach has helped them overcome a host of chronic and acute issues…vomiting, anal sacs, limping, constant coughing and other ailments and conditions. All done with caring and consideration both to me and the cats. I will not speak to some of the uninformed and rude responses that some felt compelled to write…only to say no quackery here – only two pretty healthy cats and a grateful human companion.

  6. He’s wonderful, he gave me a smoothie recipe for our Lola that 100% helped her with her problem that no one else could or even knew what it was.

You will never find a more caring person/Vet. He listens and dispenses advice and will support your decisions, homeopathic or not. We were very lucky to have Dr. F. in our lives for many years.

  8. Thanks so much everyone for your wonderful comments! My main intent in connecting with Dan was to help spread the intuitive information that our pets’ bodies (and ours) can heal. Nature has provided a simple and easy to implement Roadmap To Balance which when we help our pets follow it will always help optimize quality of life and happiness. I am always happy to discuss the specific actions with anyone anywhere.
