Bad Parking: It’s Baaaack!

It’s been a while since “06880” ran a bad (aka “entitled”) parking photo.

No, Westporters have not suddenly learned to park cautiously, courteously and cleanly between the lines.

They’re as inconsiderate as ever.

What’s changed are my standards. Now, to qualify for a post on this blog, the parking job must either:

  1. Involve 3 or more (yes, it’s possible) spaces, not “just” 2, or …
  2. … Be so jaw-dropping, gob-smacking, head-thunking unbelievable that no one other than the parker himself or herself could have dreamed up.

#2 was on full display yesterday at Fresh Market.

I know my readers. 60% will agree that this is really, really bad.

15% will ask why I didn’t show the license plate. (Because it wasn’t visible in the photo, duh.)

10% will ask if someone called the police. (They can’t do anything. It’s a private lot.)

10% will wonder why I keep posting photos of entitled parking, and make some snarky remark about “06880” in general. (NOTE: I do not force anyone to read my blog.)

And 5% will excuse the parking, because “the driver might have had a medical emergency.” (There were no medical personnel on the scene.)

There you go. Let ’em rip.

I don’t think it’s true that the police “can’t do anything because it’s a private lot.” If it’s blocking emergency vehicles, they can.

  3. You are so funny and so right!!
Love your 06880 and get it daily. I tried to donate last week and had a problem with paying.
Can’t remember why except I will keep trying!!!

  4. Jerry Kuyper

I love your breakdown of responses!

  5. Lawrence Joel Zlatkin

At least he/she didn’t park in a handicapped spot!

  6. Jack Backiel

I find it hard to believe someone can be that stupid.

Hello Dan! It’s Mike Sullivan from Brattleboro VT, formally of Oscars Deli on Main St. I’ve witnessed entitled parking for 24years, right from our store! I enjoy your covering this again! Look forward to more head shaking photos? Miss you all in Westport Dan!

Where I grew up, someone would have run a key the length of the car; NYC justice.

  9. Well…not parking…but an idiot flying a drone over protected area of birds, which were stressed and went nuts….tried to find origin but couldn’t. The officer that was asked to help did not know rule nor could be bothered.

Wesport officers are awesome so not to malign. Maybe they weren’t having a good day….

    You are FUNNY!!! 🙂
    Thanks for the laugh.

Is Triall your first name? Triall A. Merica? May I call you Mr. M?

This is so Westport and lower Fairfield County for that matter. But the “I can park however I want” is alive and well down here in South Carolina. Today i saw a schmuck parked in the fire lane at the grocery store. Oh but it was ok, they put their hazard lights on while they ran in for “just a minute”.

    Love this comment! You never know in Westport what goes on behind our closed car doors :-;

  15. I LOVE terrible parking posts. And this time you included all the possible reader responses – with %ages.

Thank you for all your hard work both informing and entertaining us. Much appreciated.

  16. Having a lot of time on your hands today, C?

  17. Jack Backiel

What does the ‘C’ stand for in the name C. Peters? Colon? Cruz?

I Learned to drive in NYC and what you learn is that every inch counts.
What bothers me more than the outrageous parking is that the rules you learned to get your drivers license don’t seem to exist here. I even checked to see if they still teach the rules, thinking that maybe in Westport they don’t teach them. EX.- when you want to make a Left at an intersection, turn on your left blinker and move to the center of the intersection and wait till it’s safe. In Westport they wait at the corner so no other cars can get by them. Consequently only one car can get through the intersection till the next change of lights -So we get instant traffic jams. I’ve even had to wait for multiple light changes when the left turning drivers were too timid to move forward never mind that half of them don’t even use their turn signals at all!
Arrogant Parking Ha! that’s just funny, but you wouldn’t even get noticed in Europe. I’d settle for rules of the road you learned to get your license. But secretly I love the parking posts, they do make you laugh, thanks Dan

    No words.🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

    OK,

That one is so bad it almost looks stages by someone who’s beem trying to get on 06880!

  22. I agree with Andrew, You’d be amazed at how a little NYC Justice goes a long way.

  23. There can be only one logical explanation…the driver needed to use the bathroom in a real hurry!

  24. Kevin McCaul

I’ve seen better parking at JFK Terminal 4.

  25. Joe McCambley

Thank you for not showing my license plate.

  26. 60% will agree that this is really, really bad. IT IS BAD! GOOD ONE, DAN!

15% will ask why I didn’t show the license plate. IF YOU MADE IT A 3D PHOTO…?

10% will wonder why I keep posting photos of entitled parking, and make some snarky remark about “06880” in general. MY FAVORITE BUMPER STICKER, SEEN IN THE POST OFFICE PARKING LOT: “YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE RUDE TO LIVE IN WESTPORT”

And 5% will excuse the parking, because “the driver might have had a medical emergency.” URGENT PREGNANCY CRAVING?

I sold my house in Westport last year and moved to 597 Apartments just over the Westport line. Every day cars park in the fire/ambulance double lane! they don’t care. Trouble is they block Ambulance entrance. So bad parking exists here every day of the week and weekend

If this is how the driver interpreted the term “curbside pick-up,”:just think of what he/she could do at a drive-through.

  29. Bobbi Essagof

Reading all the funny responses almost lets me forgive the driver. He/She…gave us such a good laugh. I do agree that needing the bathroom might have been a good excuse for this disgusting behavior.

  30. Where was the Osprey when we needed him/her?
