Pic Of The Day #1360

For nearly 4 years, “06880” has proudly posted a Pic of the Day. They celebrate this wonderful town, and the beauty that surrounds us everywhere, every day.

But Westport is just one tiny part of a much bigger, greater, more wonderful nation.

Today, we are not thinking of Westport. We are thinking of the United States of America.

The United States of America.

Here here Dan. Well said. What a dreadful day!

  2. Anne-Marie Grey

    Heartbreaking.

  3. Diane Silfen

Well said Dan. It truly was a very sad day.

  4. I couldn’t have said it better, Dan. I felt like I was watching some third world country. If today is any indication, we may look fondly back to 2020.

    THE PICTURE OF LADY LIBERTY
SO APPROPRIATE. ONLY THING MISSING ARE THE TEARS FLOWING DOWN MY CHEEKS. SO HARD TO BELIEVE THIS IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING . . .

The US is my adopted country. I came to Westport as an au pair, 22 years old in January of 1967. I lived in Westport in 1968 which was a shocking year with the assassination’s of MLK and RFK. I was in New York when there was massive protests against the Vietnam war, and the country was divided. I remember Watergate and when Nixon resigned. All of this made an impression on my, especially 1968, but never have I witness so much division and a President and his supporters so unwilling to accept the results of an election, and as a result thought it was okay to force their way into congress and try to interrupt a peaceful transition of power, which the United States have always managed. This is sad and scary.

I remember hearing Trump former lawyer Michael Cohen saying if Trump lost there is no way he would leave office peaceful, I thought he was being, perhaps a little over dramatic, unfortunately it seems he was right. January 20 can not come soon enough.

  8. Perhaps all those thoughtless, anti American assholes who voted for Trump TWICE, will now reflect on what fools, what traitors and what sycophantic, dangerous cult followers they became.

    • Elizabeth Thibault

That’s a level of self reflection that we can wish for, but is unlikely to ever come. This is not about policy positions, it’s a cult of personality.
Unfortunately it will not go away on Jan. 20, and McConnell and others learned yesterday that they can’t put the genie back in the bottle. We will need to continue to be active and diligent, to ensure that complacency doesn’t settle in after the inauguration.

  9. I also find it ironic that many of these hooligans are the same people who decried the George Floyd / BLM protests. By comparison, yesterday’s mob made the BLM protesters look like church ladies.

The picture is exactly how I feel.

Talk to me in 4 years when Biden has not done a damn thing and the economy is in the toilet and Socialism is knocking on your front door for you to share EVERYTHING you own with all the less fortunate! ! ! You liberals disgust me! ! !

    • Ray O'Sullivan

That is why Lady Liberty is crying! ! ! This great country is going down the tubes with all the far left liberal crackpots in office now! !

      • Peter Gambaccini

Ray, Ray, what’s the strongest insult I can level at your idiocy without getting booted off here?

    • Hi Ray,

Please let me know which organization you give your entire Social Security check to.

      • Ray O'Sullivan

        I don’t collect SSI! ! !

      • Ray O'Sullivan

And if I did, why would I give it to anybody, I contributed and earned it. Where do you give yours, Dan?

        • I don’t collect it either.

        • Russell Gontar

I see. So when you collect SSI it’s because you will have “earned” but it’s evil socialism if anyone else collects it. Gotcha. Same for Medicare, right Ray? What about that 3 trillion dollar tax break for the 1% Ray? Was that socialism? Any of that trickle down on you yet?

As Charlie Brown would say, Good Grief.

Nice image! But a sad day for democracy.

I grew up in a country that has many socialist programs, although in Denmark we also have free enterprise. It always bothers me when American’s are quick to label liberals as socialist or worse communist. Biden is a middle of the road democrat. I’m not saying the Danish system is perfect, nor do I advocate it for the US, however Denmark is year after year voted one of the happiest countries in the world, often no.1, although this year I believe the lost out to Finland, another Scandinavian country with many social programs.
