“Dan, have you heard reports about random loud bangs going on all over town at night? It was on Facebook “Westport Front Porch” again last night, and also on my private street group text (Old Hill area). We all experienced it a few nights ago, and each thought it was outside our own house.
“As far as we know the police get called, but nothing comes of it.”

This hasn’t gotten much publicity. But the Westport Inn — Westport’s only hotel — has been sold.
It’s closed for renovations. The website says “We look forward to welcoming you back in January 2021.”
The Water Rats swim team is crawling out of the pool long enough to do some land-based good.
Tomorrow (Saturday, November 7, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.), they’re holding a food drive to benefit the Bridgeport Rescue Mission.
Water Rats are collecting Thanksgiving-themed food items and other non-perishables. Drop-off is the gravel parking lot at the Westport Weston Family YMCA. You don’t even have to get out of your car!

“Rock, Paper, Scissors” is the latest attraction on Jesup Green by the Westport Library.
No, not the game. This is the a very cool sculpture of the same name.
The gift of Ann Sheffer and Bill Scheffler is already attracting attention. Moments after installation was complete, a young couple with a toddler strolled by.
“Wonderful work! Great spot!” they said. “Kids will love it.”
By which they of course meant “kids of all ages!”

November 5th is Bonfire Night for Brits. From Wikipedia:

We actually saw a bright flash with the very loud boom. It felt like it happened right outside our house in Old Hill. I thought a transformer blew up and went outside to check it, but the transformer was fine, everybody still had power. I called the police to report it. They said other people called as well. They came to check but found nothing.
I live on Roseville Rd and have heard the loud, gunfire like, car speeding down our street at least 3 times in the last 10 days (2x’s at night, 1x in the AM). After the 2nd time, we wrote the police department to alert them. The officer who wrote back told me if I hear it again to call the non-urgent number and they would look into it and to hold on to the nest videos we had. The 3rd time I heard, and saw, the car was in the AM after walking our dog. I called the police to let them know the car was a metallic turquoise, Japanese-looking, car. They told me there was “not much they could do about it”. After that, my Mom saw it on the Post Rd and the sound of the cars fire going off next to her made her slightly jerk the car into oncoming traffic. How is the modification made to this car legal? Regardless of it being obnoxious, it dangerous to other drivers on the road. Hopefully the WPD will take this seriously now. Thanks for posting this!
That car goes up and down Weston road at least twice a day as well. More than just a backfiring from enginevproblems, it is very loud, sounds like a bunch of mini explosions.
You should read the police accountability act recently passed. Police are not allowed much policing now. They even have to be invited, in writing or on a recording to search a car. So drugs and guns , among other things, will move freely now.
A few days ago we heard a loud boom that sounded like a bomb. The house seemed to shake a bit and the dogs went nuts. We’re off Richmondville near Main Street. Have no idea what it was but neighbors heard it also.
Hi Jana, I hadn’t heard about our local police not being allowed to help us when we call them. Can you supply us with when this passed and by whom(local government, state etc.), what the bill was called so I can look into it in more depth. Thank you.

I live off Richmondville , and also herd several loud Booms .. It sounded like they came from the power substation behind the Donut shop .. I’m a former Army Ranger , who still enjoys target shooting .. Its my opinion the loud Boobs , were Not Gunshots … More like Transformer Explosions Sometimes I can hear gunshots coming from WillowBrook Cemetery , during a 21 gun salute for a fallen Veteran .. Those are only Blank Cartridges …..
What a shame “loud Boobs” have become a presence in Westport.

You can look up the legislation called the police accountability act. I did not say the police cannot help us. They are being restricted by new legislation. The language is similar to the california legislation.
