It wasn’t Hurricane Laura. It wasn’t Tropical Storm Isaiais.
It was just another torrential thunderstorm — kind of like, oh, 48 hours ago.
With a tornado warning.
The first one moved through a few minutes ago. Another is expected at 6:15 p.m.

Oh, yeah: A downed power line on Bridge Street cut power to over 1,400 customers around 4 p.m., without any wind or rain. Power was restored an hour or so later.

As we always say: At least it’s not a blizzard…
If anyone was watching the radar (not radar you see on TV but storm radar, i.e. from weather.us), it looked like the EF1 from a couple weeks ago was forming and heading towards us. Good news for us is that It fizzled out quick but wonder if it actually touched down north of us. I was expecting to see a Tornado “warning” not just a “watch.” Watch isn’t over yet though, sit tight.
They’re looking into a tornado touching down from Hamden through North Haven into Branford. There’s a line of severe damage of trees down, snapped in half, wires and utility poles down.
There’s quite a bit of property damage.
The Merritt Parkway RT 15 southbound closed in Hamden and I-95 Branford southbound exit 55 56 closed trees came crashing down on the roadway trapping people in their vehicles.
I saw that too but wasn’t too focused on that part of the storm as the tracking clearly showed it not impacting our area. What I was watching was happening around Danbury and the track predictor had that cell heading straight for westport. We got lucky, except for the lady that had the tree fall on her car and then got out and was electrocuted.
Wish the power was back! I’m 23 Bridge St! Eversource asking for an increase!!! Doris Skutch

Today I called Eversouce to notify them of a very large tree about to fall across Thomas Rd and the power lines running down this road. Another tree next to this one had already fallen on the roof at this property. This property has never been maintained and the trees on this slopes area are all in jeopardy of falling across Thomas Rd.
Eversource said they would put a ticket in about this tree but frankly said they are only being reactive. So I guess we will have another outage in the near future. Let’s hope the tree doesn’t fall on an ambulance or some unlucky motorist that use this road constantly
Did you call the Westport Tree Warden? I would think this sort of thing would be the property owner’s or town responsibility.
Good question but I already have done that. The tree warden said that the town doesn’t concern itself with trees with private pr
operty. You would think the town would concern itself with dangerous trees that will undoubtedly cause a power outage, blockage of a town road and hopefully not personal injury.
This reactive position of Eversource and the town makes no sense at all.
You would think our town would use this situation as another example of Eversource’s complete disregard for providing reliable energy.

The trees are on private property.
Eversource’s hands are tied.
They’ll probably be able to prune and trim.
I learned this from Lewis Tree (CL&P) Eversource contactor and Jesse they’re foreman arborist.
If the tree is in the town right of way, then you should contact the town as it could be the town that needs to remove and not eversource. At least that is how it works in most towns in the area.
