Pic Of The Day #932

The barn on South Morningside Drive owned by the late Walter and Naiad Einsel — 2 of Westport’s most prominent artists — is being moved. The land across from Greens Farms Elementary School will be the site of 3 new homes. But the historic structures have been saved. (Photo/Tracy Porosoff)

Wondering where they are being moved to?

The studio/barn is being moved onto the same parcel where the Einsel historic home is. The parcel with the house and studio/barn structures is now up for sale along with the 3 other parcels. This Historic District was subdivided into 4 parcels to allow the current developer ( who is now selling the 4 parcels) to build 3 additional homes as well as to restore the Einsel home and studio. The parcels are being sold “as is” with the approved building plans and approved Town permits.

  3. Wasn’t Naiad Einsel the lead artist on the 1976 Bicentennial Westport Town Quilt? The quilt was @ our house for a time while our mother worked on “her” square. She thought so highly of Naiad. Where is the quilt displayed these days?

I’m glad the structures were saved, but heartbreaking nonetheless. And Yes, Naiad did design the bicentennial quilt. It used to hang in the front hall of town hall, but seems to have been removed. Wondering where it is now, as well.
