Dan, Perhaps a couple weeks late…but we counted a thousand monarch butterflies at Smith warming up for flight to Mexico! Inspiring to know we’re helping the cause….

    Love your blog, Charlie

  2. That captures Ford Road perfectly—one of the real treasures in town.

Beautiful, fall is my favorite season, the colors are so rich and warm. I now live in California, just north of San Francisco (lived in Westport for a couple of years in the late sixties) and contrary to popular belief we do get fall foliage here, not as rich or abundant as the East Coast. However the foot hills especially the area called the Gold Country has wonderful fall colors (which s rich with history from the gold rush). Historic towns such as Columbia, Sonora and Murphy’s is very quaint and interesting, many tourist never think to explore those areas of California, but it is well worth it, Of course Yosemite is in a class by itself, I loved Westport and the East Coast when I lived there, and still do, but Yosemite is one of my all time favorite places, it is spectacular year round.

I have been to Yosemite, Kings Canyon, the Grand Canyon, Glacier, in fact we visited most of the National Parks while our sons were still at home. I’ll take Ford Road in Westport any day of the week but especially in the fall. The stories my dad used to tell about driving his car across the river in his youth, the mystery of the , well we called it a cable car so I’m not sure of the exact name of it, that hung in the trees with a cable across the river to the factory, and of course all the history of the Red Coats retreating with the minute men hiding behind rocks. Well, that is the way we saw it….The picture captures all the beauty and mystery. Thank you Andrew Colabella and Dan!

  5. Nothing like a New England fall! I remember Ford Road. It is another magical place in Westport..an unforgettable place❤

I really wasn’t trying to make a comparison. I think when it comes to nature, that is almost impossible. Who can say what is the most beautiful, mountains, lakes, rivers, rolling hills? I can’t, each has it’s own charm. The reason Yosemite is high on my list, is I have many memories from there, since I have, over the years, been there about 15-16 times, hiking with friends, and often had my daughter along when she was growing up. I lived in Westport for almost 2 years, and had a wonderful time, so Westport is also one of my all time favorite places.
