Hi there Dan! Big fan of 06880 here , albeit a quiet fan until now 🙂 How bout that storm, eh!? Thought we’d share our view of the madness that just blew through town from our impromptu late lunch spot at Arezzo! Rather magical little view of our special wee town 🙂

Of course , we couldn’t have that thought though without simultaneously wishing and praying that everyone out there on the road , or caught out in the storm in another way was able to take cover and stay safe and sound !!! Prayers to all 🙏

  30. 10,000 is truly a stunning achievement, Dan, requiring self-discipline, fortitude and raw talent that I fear I could never muster. You are my small-town journalistic hero! But I still like Maggie Haberman better on CNN and in the NYT.

  31. Nancy Powers Conklin

Congratulations, Dad! 10,000 is a lot of words! You have done a fantastic job and I, for one, really appreciate all that you do for the 06880 community! Thank you!

  32. Congratulations! Keep up the good work!

  35. And to think that you shared this momentous day with your former Staples teammates and you didn’t even mention this at our mini-reunion lunch! We would have toasted you!

  36. Congratulations Dan! Always a pleasure knowing you are there.

When I first moved to Westport I was feeling quite Home Sick! Not a good feeling. Then I discovered your wonderful column and began settling in.
    Thank You, Mr. Dan!

  38. Keep up the great work Dan, I look forward to your column every day just like 10,000 other people. Thanks!

Wow, Dan! I agree 100% with all the accolades above. You’ve enriched my life and given me a remarkable insight into the past and present of Westport. And you are the kindest and most level-headed person I’ve ever known. What a delight! Hip, hip, HURRAY! ❤️

  44. Margaret Rynshall

Very Well Done, Dan Woog! Would you have ever thought you would reach this number? We appreciate every single one! Please keep going!

  45. Mary Lou Cookman Schmerker

I’ve tried to respond with accolades twice and due to computer glitches had them disappear……my bad and nothing to do with you or your blog.If I get this one right I’ll post my “real thanks”. next.

  46. 10,003 and counting thank yous. You are the greatest.

  47. Mary Lou Cookman Schmerker

O.K. That worked. Thank you for all you do for us and for Westport. 06880 had been wonderful for me. You have enabled me to realize several dreams. In August 2017 when I was a new subscriber you had a post about John Suggs and reuniting adoptees with their birth families. I had dreamed for more than 60 years of returning a baby cup to its rightful owner. My grandmother trusted me with the cup which belonged to the granddaughter of a friend who was adopted. 06880 put me in contact with John Suggs who found the adoptee and the baby cup was returned. About the same time 06880 featured a teacher at Greens Farms Academy and through Greens Farms I was able to return a small devotional book to the family of another of my grandmother’s friends. But 06880 and Dan was not through with enriching my life. 06880 put me in touch with the younger sisters of my best friend at Staples who sadly died before our Junior year. There is still more! A post about Saugatuck Congregational Church caused me to mention my grandmother’s time as organist and Buell Neidlinger commented that she was an inspiration to him in his extraordinary career. This does not even get close to mentioning keeping up with the “Bridge Street Bridge” activity or the beautiful meadow turned waste dump at Baron’s. So, here is my challenge. Just think what might happen if the almost 10,000 of us who follow 06880 sent Dan an anniversary gift of just $10.00? My check will be in the mail tomorrow! Thanks Dan. It is such a small word for all the information and good work you do to keep us together.

    • Wow – what an amazing post, Mary Lou. This is why I do what I do — to try to connect the Westport of the past with the present, and (hopefully) inspire the future. We (and I) don’t always get it right, but it’s not for lack of trying. This is a wonderful, amazing and beautiful town — in many ways beyond what we see or realize — and I am honored to be part of it. Thanks for being along on this journey. And thanks to for remembering Buell, another great friend I met through “06880.” Here’s to the next 10,000!

  48. Stacie Curran

  55. Hi Dan, hope all is well. We haven’t seen you in awhile. Come visit us at EM’s so we can buy you a cup of our great coffee.

Congrats on 10,000 posts!! I tried to do the math and figure out how many I’ve seen since moving to Westport last October. I think the number is around 1000 using an average of 3/day. Am I close?

We hope to see you soon!

CONGRATULATIONS, Dan, on this amazing milestone!
I agree with the accolades cited above and urge every fan to reach for his/her checkbook and send some $$$ your way, albeit “off cycle”. Your contributions are enormous and I appreciate the daily opportunity to re-connect with the town of my youth. Simply put, you’re the BEST!!

  60. Michael Elliot

Dan, what can I say that has not already been said…..except that you are a fine wordsmith and the heart beat of this community. I love this town we grew up in and that you keep it so well connected. A day without “06880” is a day without……well you all know! Thanks for all you do!

  61. William Strittmatter

Let me add my congratulations. 10,000 posts is a lot of work. All of it quality from what I’ve seen. But what are the other stats? How long did it take? How many posts/day?

How many comments? I’m guessing somewhere around 200,000. Aside from the posts, that’s a lot of interesting conversations started.

    • Thanks, William. I started “06880” in March, 2009, and have never missed a day. So that’s 10 years and 5 months — averaging a bit over 3 a day, if I’m not mistaken.

There have been 111,370 comments. Quite a lot. Thanks for asking!

  62. Alexandra Woods

Thanks for reply Dan ! Bummer that the photos didn’t actually go through that day 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️ Oh well!! Giving Resending a try below… if it doesn’t work don’t worry about it! Next time! Xx Ali
