This is not another story about a business leaving Main Street.
It’s about one that already did.
Shortly after moving to Westport in 1972, Mike Langton’s father opened The Lamp Shade Store. For 20 years next to the restaurant that is now 323, he repaired shades.
Langton graduated from Staples High School in 1982. Five years later, he joined the business.
In 1989 they moved the store just over the Norwalk border, next to Jordan’s Pizza. The focus shifted from fixing lamps to selling them. It’s long been a favored destination for Westporters.
But times have changed. The Lamp Shade Store closes July 14. Langton is moving to Port Charlotte, Florida, where his father is. They’ll open a shop there.
Until then, everything is 50% off.
And don’t worry. Langton will still ship lamps to customers back home. Just email thelampshadestore@gmail.com.

This is a genuine loss (I find myself saying that every few months). We have beautifully restored early 20th century lighting fixtures all over our house from The Lamp Shade Store. Plus many more that received the critical parts they needed from this great little store to shine again. Mike has a special genius for picking just the right shade to go with any lamp regardless of whether it’s new or old. Pamela and I will really miss you Mike, but wish you and your dad the very best of luck with your new venture in Florida.
I remember you from when you shared a building with my husband. And then in Norwalk. Many good wishes.
Like Morley above many many of our vintage lamps and shades have been repaired/replaced over the years. A true “go-to” place. Time marches on however and change is inevitable. Will a replacement surface??? Time will tell….there is a need.
I have been friends with the Langtons since they moved to Westport. They are fantastic people and I wish them all the best.
Congrats on moving to a state that supports businesses and has maintained no state income tax. So opposite of CT.
Looks like you will prosper both from the move but just as important the move to be with family.

Dick. The numbers continue to add up as more and more move out of CT. You will never see me stop until reform and changes happen in CT. Just like the success in Westport when a fiscally focused team took over.
Westporters should know that our own State Rep Steinberg is the cause of these issues. Voting for 2 massive tax increases and extending the SEBAC agreement went against every Westport resident interests. He put his allegiance to Hartford over his neighbors.
Dick-no doubt I will continue. A big election is coming and we will have no one else to blame if Rep Steinberg is re-elected and the same leaders stay in office.

I will really miss this place. They have fixed all my antique lamps. From now on, I guess i will have to go to Florida for my lamp needs.

Wow, I bought all of my quality lampshades there to fit my parent’s and grandparent’s old lamps. No other store around was able to do that, plus repair them. Enjoying my new lamp shades in California. Glad I got them. Their lamps were beautiful, as well.
