Be Careful Out There

There’s something about the Compo Shopping Center parking lot.

With scary regularity, cars plow into storefronts there.

This afternoon, it was Little Kitchen.

Fortunately, no one yet has been seriously hurt.

    Any small concrete barrier would prevent this from recurring. What’s wrong with this landlord. Someone is going to be hurt.

      Tesla describes the Autosteer+ feature in Autopilot 2.0:

      “With the new Tesla Vision cameras, sensors and computing power, your Tesla will navigate tighter, more complex roads.”

      Hmmm…….I think somebody took that too seriously.

    I have a theory about why this keeps happening in this particular location. It won’t win me many friends, and it’s just a hypothesis based on available data and some observations. But here it goes.

    The one thing all these accidents have in common is that they are clustered right around Gold’s. And Gold’s attracts an older demographic. And there is lots of evidence that show age clusters in accidents involving unintended acceleration (the technical term for this kind of accident). I won’t bother linking to the articles and studies, but they are out there if you Google.

    Anyway, that’s pretty much it. The old school clientele at Gold’s is one of the things that makes it such a special place. But I have a strong suspicion that it is also at the heart of why the merchants in this plaza have to replace their windows so often. Not sure what to do about it, but it’s pretty interesting.

    Best to park in the back, Liquor Locker is the best wine shop in town. There is plenty of parking in the back and that way you won’t have to deal with the crazy light that coincides with Trader Joe’s- which needs to be taken care of as well.

    Do you remember when Ruth plowed in to the mattress store? Same look. I think all of the stores in that line have been struck. Best to park on the other side of the parking lot.
