Pics Of the Day #273

Yesterday, this lot by the beach was empty.

Today, a prefab house was delivered.

By this afternoon it was equipped with kitchen cabinets, wiring, lights, tile and appliances.

Tomorrow — who knows? The owners may already move in.

  1. Yikes…another architecture abonination on Westport Ave. Absoluely no sense of beach cottage look and feel. Just another “motel” looking domicile.
But then taste is a “personal”thing isn’t it. Too bad it will join the others as the first thing you see when you leave the beach.

Besides architectural taste, modular homes are finished fast as they are made ahead of time, which will reduce the time the site is congested with all the different trades working on the same home at the same time. À plus for the neighborhood I think.

That’s a good point. Can name it “low impact” housing!

I’ve seen shows about how these are put together, and many are “eco-consciously” constructed.

One show highlighted the use (re-use) of retired shipping containers for residential pre-fabs. Kinda cool, me thinks.

  3. Shoebox on a shoebox gets you max interior P&Z space⁉️

  4. Actually I have seen this modular construction on several lots in Westport.

I mourn the cottage feel but that horse left the barn a long time ago.

I live on a 12 house cul de sac…one day the house that had belonged to my old friend (disceased) was completely razed…next day a flatbed rolled down to said location and by evening a house was there on the lot looking like it had been there all along….just to shorten this…..it was purchased on line!….if any one is old enough to remember Erwin and Barbara Mach…he was the tennis pro at Longshore and she was a dancer on the Gary Moore. (also a onetime Westporter) television show…they had prefab house in Weston and that also went up in a couple of days…I was fascinated by both the price and quality ….will modern wonders never cease!

    • Audrey – I’m in the process of buying the Mach’s house on old orchard. Our inspector actually thought that the house was an architect build so I was surprised to see your comment about it being prefab. So interesting! Do you remember anything else about the house and/or know anyone who is still in contact with the Mach family? I would love to have more history on the home!
