Paint Store Closes; Decorators Still Available

PPG Paint Store has leased space in Compo Shopping Center for only 3 years. At the end of September, it closed.

But its history goes back decades.

The store started as The Paint Bucket, in Sconset (at the time, called Sherwood) Square.

In the 1990s, owners moved it to the present location — formerly Zaro’s Bakery — and renamed it Brandman’s.

Painter’s Supply took over the lease in 2012. Two years later it became PPG.

The space grew and shrunk — taking over, then leaving what is now Liquor Locker.

For 20 years it was home to a decorating center too. Shelly Noble started there first. Katie Phillis joined soon thereafter.

PPG stopped selling Benjamin Moore paint — a business decision that may have led to its demise.

But customers kept coming, for Shelly and Katie’s expertise and experience.

Although PPG is gone, the “decorating ladies” want customers to know they’re not far away — and still available (kjphillis@snet.net; snoble24@optonline.net).

As always, Shelly and Katie will help you plan your next project.

They’ll just have to find a new place to buy the paint.
