For decades, the Ruth Steinkraus Cohen Bridge — the Post Road span named for Westport’s tireless UN and peace advocate — has been the site of social justice protests.
This afternoon, several dozen folks of all ages thronged the bridge. In the aftermath of yesterday’s horrific anti-black, anti-Semitic, Nazi-infused demonstration and murder in Charlottesville, the group had a united message: Hate has no place here.
“Honk against hate!” they chanted.
Many drivers obliged.
As they did, the protesters cheered and smiled.
Then they chanted even louder.
Bravo to protesters.
Bravo, indeed! Another reason to be so proud of Westport. Would have loved to be there with you in body as well as spirit. Never stay silent! ❤️

So great to see Westporters coming together and supporting unity – stop racism and bigotry in this country!!! Our President needs to denounce these white supremacist groups. Unfortunately he does not say it and it makes it worse. Thankfully many of us are standing united against these terribly divisive groups.
Figure out how to stop ISIS from breaking into homes of tax paying families and deporting hardworking people who just want to live here in peace while waiting for the coveted doc. “Sad”

Trumps election has given the angry…the fearful, permission to vent their (misdirected) hate…. They need help and healing…not sure they will get it or would even accept it if offered. Sad…very very sad.
