Memorial Day Parade Canceled; Ceremony Set For Town Hall, 10 am

For the 2nd year in a row, bad weather has forced the cancellation of Westport’s Memorial Day parade.

A ceremony — including a speech by grand marshal and World War II veteran Ed Vebell — is set for 10 a.m., in the Town Hall auditorium.

See you there!

I’ve been everywhere since leaving Connecticut and nothing has ever come close to Memorial Day in Westport. God Bless Ed Vebell and his fallen comrades.

So lame. The second year in a row because of a drizzle. Did not those we are honoring fight and fall for us in the rain? What a bunch of wusses this town has become. So much preparation again for nothing. How about those who make those decisions because they don’t want to participate can stay home and all snug and dry and everyone else can go ahead with honoring those that gave the ultimate sacrifice. They don’t cancel the Thanksgiving parades because its raining, or even snowing.

Adam, that was my initial reaction and I thought for a minute that it would be a tragedy if even one of the greatest generation caught his/death of cold. The important thing, regardless of what you choose to do, is honor them.
