What’s new at Compo? A number of new tables, in the pavilions by Joey’s and the volleyball courts.
These look a lot more user-friendly than the heavy, mess hall-style ones that have seen (many) better years.
So why were they empty?
It was the 1st beautiful Sunday of spring. After the winter we’ve had, no one wanted to be indoors — even at an open-air pavilion.
The beach was packed. I know these tables will get plenty of work, very soon.
Very nice, much more communal and friendly.
Those tables look super-user-friendly – cool design and easy side access for many wet bathing suit clad kids and adults.
Boy, I do miss Compo!
Those are really nice tables. I hope they put more new tables where we cook. Last year we had to put table clothes on the seats so we would not get splinters.
Dan – these tables and benches are part of a donation made by the family of Barbara “Bobby” Saipe. Mrs. Saipe was a long time advocate for recreation in Westport and for accessible picnic tables at the beach. The gift includes new accessible tables at both Compo Beach and Longshore. The Board of Selectmen accepted the donation on behalf of Westport and thanked the Saipe family.

Good to know – thank you!
Hope these new tables won’t be “reserved” on the morning of the fireworks.
