Food, Glorious Food!

Hot on the heels of Blues, Views & BBQ — and then Slice of Saugatuck — Westport is getting ready for a 3rd food festival.

The Westport Foodie Fest — which the Westport Downtown Merchants Association hopes will be a new annual event — is set for October 26, 27 and 28.

According to its website, the 3-day “menu” (ho ho) “spotlights local culinary talent who will offer flavorful food, luscious libations, and ingenious instruction.”

Nearly 2 dozen events are listed. The most unusual may be “Biergarten on the Green,” across from Town Hall.

This “Shock Top Beer Beetle” may make an appearance at the Biergarten. It’s actually a keg. The beer is tapped right from the hood. Can’t beat that Mohawk!

Chef and cookbook author Ian Knauer will prepare beer-ladened, seasonal fare using fresh farm-to-table ingredients. Micro-brews will be available for tasting all afternoon.

Everyone (21 and over, please!) receives a complimentary tasting glass, and a special German snack from Oscar’s. The Zany Oomph Band will play polkas, waltzes and drinking songs.

Also on tap (ho ho):

…and more!

Proceeds benefit the Connecticut Food Bank, Homes with Hope/Gillespie Center and other local non-profit organizations, Sunrise Rotary-designated charities, and WDMA partners and beautification efforts.

Foodie Fest restaurants will also donate unsold food and ingredients to Community Plates, a Norwalk organization that is committed to “rescuing food for those without.”

As cool as Westport’s 1st Foodie Fest sounds, of course, there’s no such thing as a free lunch.

Or dinner. Or beer and wine.
