Hot on the heels of Blues, Views & BBQ — and then Slice of Saugatuck — Westport is getting ready for a 3rd food festival.
The Westport Foodie Fest — which the Westport Downtown Merchants Association hopes will be a new annual event — is set for October 26, 27 and 28.
According to its website, the 3-day “menu” (ho ho) “spotlights local culinary talent who will offer flavorful food, luscious libations, and ingenious instruction.”
Nearly 2 dozen events are listed. The most unusual may be “Biergarten on the Green,” across from Town Hall.
Chef and cookbook author Ian Knauer will prepare beer-ladened, seasonal fare using fresh farm-to-table ingredients. Micro-brews will be available for tasting all afternoon.
Everyone (21 and over, please!) receives a complimentary tasting glass, and a special German snack from Oscar’s. The Zany Oomph Band will play polkas, waltzes and drinking songs.
Also on tap (ho ho):
- A beer and wine open bar at the Spotted Horse
- Autumn breakfast (with pumpkin coffee) at the Westport Library, and a more alcoholic (Bloody Marys and mimosas) breakfast at Tavern on Main
- A cooking demo and lunch at Da Pietro’s
- Sushi rolling for kids (how Westport is that?) at Matsu Sushi; also, a screening of “Jiro Dreams of Sushi” at Town Hall, followed by sushi and sake at the Westport Historical Society
- A make-your-own taco bar at Villa del Sol
- “BBQ, Bourbon & Beer” on Bobby Q’s roof
- A Turkish brunch at the Westport Arts Center
- “Champagne and Charcuterie” at Luxe Wine Bar
- “Around the World With 80 Wines” at Christ & Holy Trinity Church’s Branson Hall
- Wine tasting at Acqua
…and more!
Foodie Fest restaurants will also donate unsold food and ingredients to Community Plates, a Norwalk organization that is committed to “rescuing food for those without.”
As cool as Westport’s 1st Foodie Fest sounds, of course, there’s no such thing as a free lunch.
Or dinner. Or beer and wine.
Ticket information for each event is available here.
