Cookin’ For A Cause

Gentlemen, start your grills.

Ladies, too.

The “Blues, Views and BBQ” crew is looking for a few good chefs.  The September 25 festival includes a Cookin’ for a Cause Amateur BBQ Competition.

Teams of 2-4 “backyard chefs” can enter 3 categories:  chicken, ribs and “chef’s choice.”  Winners in each category receive a great prize, a trophy, and bragging rights on every patio and deck in Westport, from now through next year.

The $100 entry fee benefits the Westport Woman’s Club food closet — helping local families in need.

For $75 more, each team can enter an Iron Chef competition against 6 Kansas City Barbeque Society pro teams.  The festival provides the meat, starch and veggies — and maybe a secret ingredient or two.  May the most creative team win.

The Westport Downtown Merchants Association encourages creativity in team-making too.  Friends and neighbors, local organizations, sports teams, non-profits, businesses — all are invited to enter.

Cookin’ for a Cause is just part of a great weekend.  The music lineup includes Blues Traveler (Sept. 24), craft beer, specialty liquors, plus plenty of food and activities for families and children.  A “Kids Q” on Sunday, Sept. 26 allows young chefs to join the fun.

Bobby Flay, eat your heart out.

The rest of you:  just eat.
