Last week’s photo challenge was a toughie. But Diane Bosch, Morley Boyd and Edward Bloch nailed it. Lynn U. Miller’s image showed part of the engine order telegraph that’s stood near Sconset Square — between Blue Lemon and the Post Road — for nearly 3 decades.
An engine order telegraph is used by a pilot on a ship’s bridge, to order engineers down below to power the vessel at a desired speed. Diane noted that this particular device was salvaged from the tugboat Celtic, which sank suddenly off Sheffield Island in 1984.
Now it’s on to this week’s challenge. If you know where in Westport it is, click “Comments.” And, as always, if you know the back story, add that too!
